This house in a small subdivision in Mapleton was designed for privacy from the street and an expansive view to the coast from the deck at the rear. A very steep site presented stability problems which were overcome by the use of steel columns which allowed ground water to flow uninterrupted under the building. A variety of cladding materials and simple floor and roof forms produced an economical yet visually interesting building.
